The Heart of Christ by Thomas Goodwin
Blue Letter Bible is privileged to present this digital edition of Thomas Goodwin’s, The Heart of Christ in Heaven Towards Sinners on Earth, first published in 1651. This exposition of Christ’s compassion for his people would soon become one of Goodwin’s most popular works.
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.” (Hebrews 4:15.)
Excerpt from The Heart of Christ
“Though Christ is now in glory, do not let that discourage you, for he has the heart of a husband towards you, being betrothed to you forever in faithfulness and in loving-kindness. …Take this as one incentive to obedience: that if he retained the same heart of mercy towards you which he had here on earth, then to answer his love, endeavor to have the same heart towards him on earth which you hope to have in heaven.”
Thomas Goodwin shows from Scripture how Christ, now in his heavenly majesty, remains compassionate toward his people. His tender affections and steadfast love for all believers are as strong today, as when he washed the disciples’ feet. Equally as humbling is Christ’s heart toward us in our afflictions and our sins! This book serves to draw our attention away from self and love of sin, focusing our attention on our much-needed knowledge of Christ our Savior.
